Live Tournament Series
Last entry I talked about the reasons for using a PokerStars marketing code and getting rakeback when participating in online games. This time I would like to talk about some popular brick-and-mortar tournaments sponsored by PokerStars. PokerStars sponsors a huge number of live poker events around the world every year, and there are always online satellites for those that cannot afford to buy-in directly.
EPT (European Poker Tour) London took place in late September/early October. If you worked hard enough to become a PokerStars Elite player, you could have chosen to sit in the Main Event for part of your PokerStars rakeback benefits. The events took place between September 29th and October 4th, and the series participation was excellent. The Main Event required a £5,250 buy-in, and 848 runners meant a prize pool of £4,112,800. To be a PokerStars player in one of these events, you must satellite on the biggest download free poker site or you must be sponsored by the site. Artur Wasek was the top finishing PokerStars player, busting 4th and receiving £240,000.
Another reason to support a PokerStars bonus code is that the site has a charitable side. A charity event took place during EPT London from October 2-4. Since £10 from each buy-in was going to Cancer Research UK, the total entry fee was £100+10+10. To encourage participants, PokerStars guaranteed the prize pool at £100,000 and allowed re-entries. Those interested in contributing even more to the charity could do so with a simple transfer on their PokerStars download. They just had to transfer funds to the user ID “CancerUK”.
The Belgian Open Poker Championship is another series that recently finished this month. Four days were dedicated to Day 1, and then there were a variety of smaller tournaments taking place at the same time. There were six total events scheduled. Female fans of top Texas Holdem sites left their computers for the day to play a special Ladies only freezeout with a buy-in of €110 on October 17th.
If you live closer to Canada or the U.S. and play in casinos for USA players, you can go to Atlantic City for the United States Poker Championship. You will need $5,250 to play the Main Event, although if you find this a bit much, there are plenty of online satellites. Or you can play one of several smaller events between $300 and $600. This series has a Ladies event too, and the buy-in is $300.
With these days of poker downloads and poker flash, sometimes we forget that the live poker scene is still booming. The best way to gain poker fame is still to win a big brick-and-mortar event! The next time you get the gambling itch, head to your local casino to see when the next big poker series is coming to your town.
